Guidelines on the format and structure of a dissertation in project management

In project management, you study the process and procedures how the projects are being done and the ways to improve the project. A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time, and therefore defined scope and resources.

The project is unique in a sense that it does not have routine operations but it has a specific set of operations defined for a specific time period. People from different backgrounds, organizations, and geographies come together in a project to work.

Project management is a being taught as a subject and students are required to write the dissertation on project management who opt for this subject as their majors. Every dissertation has a specific format and so does the dissertation of project management have. To secure good grades, it is important that the dissertation should be written according to the standard structure and format.

The structure of the project management dissertation is as follows

  1. Introduction

This is the first chapter of your dissertation. In introduction chapter, you give an overview of your topic along with the purpose of carrying out the research on the particular topic. You also explain why there is a need for doing research on a certain topic. in an introduction, the nature of the study is also explained.

  1. Problem statement

Every research has a defined problem statement, on which you carry out your research by answering the solutions to the problem statement. In this chapter, the terms that are going to be used in the dissertation are defined. The hypothesis is also developed and objectives of the study are being defined in the chapter of a problem statement. A brief description of the methodology of the research is provided.

  1. Literature review

A literature review is a chapter in which the work of the previous researcher is being studied. The purpose of the literature review is to find out the gap in the research. For writing a literature review, you have to read different articles of the relevant area. The articles should be recent one as they will provide more detailed information and knowledge.

  1. Methodology

In methodology chapter the methods are defined which are being used. Qualitative and quantitative researchers have the different methodology. You have to use the one which suits your study. Questionnaires developed and sample size selected is discussed in this chapter. Statistical tools are being discussed which are going to be used.

  1. Results

In this chapter, you discuss the results of the methods you had used. Results show whether your research is significant or insignificant and based on the results, you give recommendations.

  1. Conclusion, Discussion, and Recommendations

This is the final chapter. Where you conclude your study and discuss the positive and negative aspects of your research and of its results. Recommendations are given to the future researchers that how to carry out this research further in different angles. This chapter should be very well written as it is the last chance to impress your readers.
